This study will focus on their meaning and the benefits that we can get from His names SWT.

Ghaniya and Mughni meaning

Al Ghani meaning

Ghani (الغني) is one of the names of Allah that can be translated as The Rich. It means that Allah is The Rich by Himself who has complete richness and He is the one that makes His servants rich but none like Him in His Richness. That explains why this name is translated as The self-sufficient.

The meaning can be explained in various ways. The first meaning is self-sufficient like being in no need of anything. This meaning is in the Quran about Allah SWT.

“Allah ˹alone˺ is truly the Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy”.

Quran 22:64

Also, this meaning is in Surah Fatir. 35:15 “O humanity! It is you who stand in need of Allah, but Allah ˹alone˺ is the Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy”.

Other meanings of Al Ghani are attributed to creatures. And in this context, the self-sufficient or the not needy can not be attributed to Allah’s creatures but it may mean having a few needs. Like being rich and that is mentioned in the prophet saying, peace be upon him: (Richness is the richness of the soul) (Hadith on the authority of Abu Huraira).

Another meaning was also found in Quran and Sunnah about Al Ghani meaning but only Al Ghani is Allah Who can be called self-sufficient.

Al Mughni meaning

Al Mughni (المغني): it can be translated as The Enricher. It means that He is the one that enriches people with what they need from food & clothes. He does not need to give but His servants need Him and they do not need anyone else to give and enrich them.

The Almighty said: {And I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship 56 I do not want from them any sustenance, and I do not want them to be fed}

[Al-Dhariyat 56-57]

And in Hadith Qudsi Allah says:

If the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you, were to rise in one place and ask of Me, and I were to give everyone what he asked for, that would not decrease what I have any more than a needle decreases the sea if put into it..”

(Narrated by Muslim)
