Translation

The Arabic phrase “Ya Fattahu” or “Ya Fattah” literally means “O opener” in Arabic (يا فتاح). Commonly used by Muslims to call Allah in Dua. Similar to Ya Allah, Ya Kareem.

Ya Fattahu meaning Meaning

It consists of two words “Ya” and “Fattahu”. “yã” is used before a name in direct address, it is a calling prefix usually for calling someone in Arabic. So, the next word is in the vocative form.

Fattahu or Fattah means Ever-Opener. It is from the name of Allah Alfattah (Arabic: الفتاح). This name means that Allah is the opener of anything, he opens the closed doors for you, removes obstacles that you face, and facilities all your matters. This name also means He opens the doors of testing and affliction for the true believers.

So, Fattahu can be a form of Dhikr of Allah by one of His names or to begin Dua to Allah by addressing His name Al-Fattah.

Making Dua to Allah by invoking Him by one of his names is certainly beneficial and is even better than making Dua without mentioning one of his names. So, include one of the 99 names of Allah in your Dua as Allah says وَلِلَّهِ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا The most beautiful names belong to Allah. so call on him by them(Quran 7:180).
