Exam days are full of stress and tension. But you can use Dua to face all difficulties and get high results simply by reading some Duas for exams.

Are there specific Duas for exams?

There isn’t a specific Dua to say for exams to succeed. There was not a Hadith or Quran Aya about exams, as there weren’t such school exams or tests in the past.

However, It is permissible for students to use the general Duas that the prophet said in times of difficulty that would facilitate solving the exams and it can be said with the intention to succeed in exams or in the field of enriching knowledge, the serenity of the heart, guidance and reaching our objectives, and the like. These Duas may achieve success and guidance in answering, recalling information and reaching the rank of excellence. And, here are some of these Duas from Quran and Sunna.

What are the best Duas for exams to repeat

You can repeat any Dua that you wish. I will list here some Duas from the Quran and Sunnah that were for certain situations, but you can repeat them for the exam’s easiness and success insha’Allah.

Before studying

Start with Bismillah.

Dua before studying,
{ رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي * وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي * وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي * يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي }

Lord, lift up my heart and ease my task for me. Untie my tongue, so that they may understand my words.

Translitration [rabbi ishrah lee sadree Wayassir lee amree Wahlul AAuqdatan min lisanee Yafqahoo qawlee] [mfn]Quran Surah Taha: 20[/mfn]

After studying say

اللهم إني استودعتك ما قرأت وما حفظت وما تعلمت، فرده عند حاجتي إليه؛ إنك على كل شيء قدير، وحسبنا ونعم الوكيل.

Translitration allahuma ‘aniy astawdiek ma ealimtnah wafahmatah wahafeztah; faradah ‘iilaya saeat hajati ‘iilayh wala tansanih , waftuh ealaya , allahuma fathan mubayinan , ya nur alsamawat w al’ard.

Oh Allah, I entrust to you what I have read, memorized and what I have learned, so return it when I need it. You are over all things.

اللهم أني استودعك ما علمتنه وفهمتنه وحفظتنه؛ فرده إلي ساعة حاجتي إليه ولا تنسنيه، وافتح علي، اللهم فتحا مبينا، يا نور السماوات و الأرض.

Oh Allah, I entrust to you what I have taught, understood and memorized. Bring it back to me in time of need for it, and do not cause me to forget it, O Light of the heavens and the earth.

These two Duas were not prescribed in Quran or Sunnah, but it’s a suggestion of what you can read.

Before exam

The following Dua can be repeated in times of difficulty, and it’s okay to repeat it before an exam.

Dua before exam,
اللَّهُمَّ لاَ سَهْلَ إِلاَّ مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلاً

Allāhumma lā saḥla illā ma ja`altahu saḥla wa anta taj`alu ‘l-ḥazna idhā shi’ta saḥla.

O Allah, there is no ease other than what You make easy. If You please You ease sorrow. [mfn]Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (no. 2427), Hisn al-Muslim 139[/mfn]

When forgetting something

Dua to recall what you forgot,
اللهم يا جامعَ الناس في يوم لا ريب فيه, اجمعْ بيني وبين ضالتي

Translitration: allahuma ya jame alnaas fi yawm la rayb fih , ajme bayni wabayn dalati

Oh Allah, the gatherer of people for a day there is no doubt, give me back what is lost.

This is a Mawadu Hadith, but it is permitted to use.

Duas for exams in times of sorrow or distress in exams

These Duas from Hadith are for sorrow or distress, if you had difficulty answering an exam, then, repeat them.

اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّي عَبْـدُكَ ابْنُ عَبْـدِكَ ابْنُ أَمَتِـكَ نَاصِيَتِي بِيَـدِكَ مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤكَ أَسْأَلُـكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّـيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ أِوْ أَنْزَلْتَـهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ أَوْ عَلَّمْـتَهُ أَحَداً مِنْ خَلْقِـكَ أَوِ اسْتَـأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الغَيْـبِ عِنْـدَكَ أَنْ تَجْـعَلَ القُرْآنَ رَبِيـعَ قَلْبِـي وَنورَ صَـدْرِي وجَلَاءَ حُـزْنِي وذَهَابَ هَمِّـي

Allāhumma innī `abduk, ibnu `abdik, ibnu amatik, nāsiyatī biyadik, māḍin fiyya ḥukmuk, `adlun fiyya qaḍā’uk, as’aluka bikullis’min huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fī kitābik, aw `allamtahu aḥadan min khalqik, aw‘ista’tharta bihi fī `ilmil-ghaybi `indak, an taj`ala ‘l-Qur’āna rabī`a qalbī, wa nūra ṣadrī, wa jalā’a ḥuznī, wa dhahāba hammī.

O Allah, I am Your slave, and the son of Your male slave, and the son of your female slave. My forehead is in Your Hand (i.e. you have control over me). Your Judgment upon me is assured, and Your Decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with, revealed in Your Book, taught any one of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my distress.

[mfn]Ahmad 1/391, and Al-Albani graded it authentic. Hisn al-Muslim 120[/mfn]

«لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيم»

He told that Allah’s messenger used to say when he was anxious “There is no god but God, the Incomparably Great, the Clement; there is no god but God, the Lord of the mighty Throne; there is no god but God, the Lord of the heavens, the Lord of the earth, and the Lord of the noble Throne.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

How to succeed in exams with Dua

When making Dua to Allah, there are some rituals. 

  • First, you should be sincere to Allah in your Dua. Only Him Swbhanahu Watala can help you to succeed.
  • Second, you should have complete trust in his acceptance. Allah SWT accepts our Duas He said make Dua to me, and I will answer you.
  • Reading Quran can help you in your study. Allocating some time for Quran may help release your stress during exam times.
  • Duas from Quran and Sunnah are good. But, it is good to make whatever Dua you want. You can just ask Allah to guide you, strengthen you and get you high results in exams. You can read powerful Duas for needs and Hajat
  • The prophet used to say a lot of Duas in times of hardship. You can read some of the above.
  • After the exam, say Alhamdulillah no matter how you performed.
